Abstract (EN)

Islamic economics does not regard consumption as merely the fulfillment of physiological needs; it defines it as a balanced process aligned with moral, social, and economic responsibilities. Within this framework, wastefulness is not only the extravagance of material resources but also an expression of individual weakness, social corruption, and the loss of spiritual awareness. The Qur'an and the Sunnah consistently emphasize the principles of moderation, contentment, and responsibility, and explicitly condemn the unconscious consumption of blessings. In contrast, modern consumer culture is shaped less by necessity and more by desire and status, thereby conflicting with the Islamic understanding of frugality and balance. Against this background, the thesis critically evaluates Islamic-referenced consumption products within the context of wastefulness. Through the examples of halal food, halal tourism, and Islamic fashion, the study demonstrates that these products and services often serve not to embody Islamic values but rather to legitimize the values of consumer culture. The commercialization of certification processes in the halal food sector, the emphasis on luxury and ostentation in halal tourism, and the transformation of hijab from its essential meaning into a commodity in Islamic fashion all illustrate this trend. In conclusion, the study underscores that reducing the concept of "halal" to a superficial marketing tool contradicts the principles of moderation and contentment in Islam. It argues that Islamic-referenced consumption products must be redefined around anti-wastefulness principles to ensure that they function not as reinforcements of consumer culture, but as genuine reflections of Islamic ethical sensitivities.
