Abstract (EN)

Today, labour turnover is an important problem for both countries and companies. Although a certain degree of labour turnover is a necessary condition for the survival of businesses and economic dynamics, a high rate of labour turnover causes economic damage to companies, a decrease in service quality and difficulty in finding and training qualified employees. On the other hand, leaves cause loss of productivity in employees, a new training time and expense for each new employee, an increase in time spent and a decrease in working efficiency. These costs are undesirable for businesses. From the perspective of workers, it is clear that they experience economic, social and psychological losses. Dismissal may cause the dismissed worker to experience financial difficulties due to the loss of his/her only source of livelihood and result in depression due to economic difficulties. Moreover, a worker who has lost his/her job may be pressured by the people around him/her as he/she is unemployed. Thus, it is believed that investigation of the reasons for resignation and dismissal will contribute to the reduction of labour turnover to some extent. Therefore, in the current study, it was aimed to examine the factors affecting the resignation and dismissal of workers working in the tourism and food sector in the Aegean region of Turkey in terms of different variables. The sample of this study employing the survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, consisted of the workers and employers in the enterprises operating in the tourism and food sector in the Aegean region of Turkey. In the study, a "Personal Information Form", the "Scale of Reasons for Workers' Resignation" consisted of 55 items designed in the form of five-point Likert scale and the "Questionnaire of Dismissing the Worker" consisted of 55 items were used as the data collection tools. The collected data were analyzed by using the statistical package SPSS 26.0v. In the analysis of the data, Kolomogorov Smirnov was used for the normality test, frequency analysis and percentage calculations were used for descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test was used in the analyses related to the gender variable and One-Way ANOVA was used in the analyses related to the variables of age, marital status, length of service, education level, household income, job, state of insurance and mean daily working time. As a result of the current study, it can be stated that the workers seem to be undecided about resignation. From among the variables, the gender and job variables were found to have no significant effect the workers' tendency to resign. On the other hand, the variables of age, marital status, education level, length of service, household income, mean daily working time and state of insurance were found to have a significant effect. When the results were examined in terms of the employer's tendency to dismiss the worker, it was found that the variables of marital status and job did not have a significant effect. On the other hand, the variables of gender, age, education level, length of service, household income, mean daily working time and state of insurance were found to have a significant effect. This study is a quantitative study and it was aimed to examine the reasons for the resignation and dismissal of employees in terms of different variables. Future research can employ qualitative research methods to conduct a more in-depth investigation of the subject.
