The job satisfaction levels of the teachers working in vocational and technical high schools located in city center of İzmir

The purpose of this research is to determine and compare the job satisfaction levels of the teachers working in vocational and technical high schools located in City Center of İzmir.Necessary arrangements made to rectify the situation by putting out the reasons for dissatisfaction of teachers who have a great importance in vocational and technical education because of the increasing importance of the need for qualified manpower after the industrial revolution are considered.The universe of the study is composed of 3451 teachers working in 72 vocational and technical high schools located in City Center of İzmir in 2009-2010 Academic Year. Study sample is consist of 370 teachers have been working in 11 vocational and technical high schools within the boundaries of the central city.In this research,age, sex, branch, length of service, marital status, the school they graduated from, job satisfaction level, job itself, management, salary, relationship between teachers, success, respect, being known and lack of interest, of students and their families are considered."Job Satisfaction Scale" and "Personal Information Form" developed by Şahin (1999) are used as the data collection tool. SPSS (Statistical Package For Social Science, 13) software package was used for statistical analysis of the data collected by the research. The data frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and one-way analysis of variance was used for analysis of the data. The margin of error was adopted as the upper limit of 0.05.According to the findings of the research results the overall level of job satisfaction of teachers working in vocational and technical high schools, was found ?in part". Job satisfaction of teachers in respect of management, the job itself, irrelevence of the parents and students' irrelevence, success-esteem-recognation, relations of individuals are "partially satisfactory".According to the results of the study some suggestions have been given for practitioner and for researchers.Key Words: Vocational and Technical High School, Dimensions of Job Satisfaction, Job satisfaction.
