Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to assess job stress among Emergency Service Department, 112 ambulance workersMethods: The Emergency Service Department, 112 ambulance employees (physicians, nurses-midwifes, emergency medical technicians, and drivers) were surveyed cross-sectionally. A self-administered, anonymous questionnaire was developed, and delivered to the emergency workers. 354 workers, out of 746 (46%) were completed the study. In order to assess job stress, Turkish version of Swedish demand-control-support questionnaire was used. Stress due to house works or domestic stress were assessed by using the similar items as in demand-control-support questionnaire. A minimal questions on social and economic status and working conditions were also included in the questionnaire.Results: Mean age of the study population was 31±8.0, and consisted 63% of women. 41.6% were graduated from high school and 32.4% have higher education. Majority of the study group was Emergency Technicians (57%), followed by physicians (21%). Occupational stress was not found significantly different between gender (p=0.08). Domestic stress and total stress, was found significantly higher in women (p<0.001 and p=0.04 respectively). Domestic stress was found 3 times (OR=3.46; 1.55-7.72) higher in women after adjusted for age and occupation.Conclusion: In this study it has been showed that stress due to domestic works may play a substantial role for total perceived stress. Women were exposed higher domestic stress than males. It has been concluded that domestic and work stres should be considered together.Keywords: Health care workers, job stress, job insecurity
