Abstract (EN)

Cylindrotheca closterium is one of the diatom species that can be dominant particularly in spring, summer or autumn in İzmir Bay. In this thesis, growth kinetics of Cylindrotheca closterium have been studied under different temperature, light intensity, nutrient concentrations and salinity conditions. The status of the species in the near future in İzmir Bay has also been estimated while considering possible effects of global warming. Temperature and light experiments have been carried out simultaneously and the obtained results at 18 0C are µmax= 1.974276±0.167668 d-1 for the maximum specific growth rate and KI=0.047799± 0.027594 for the half saturation constant. The specific growth rate has been calculated to be 2.012 d-1 at 15 %0 salinity which is determined to be the optimum concentration. Maximum specific growth rates for different concentrations of ammonium, nitrate, reactive phosphate and reactive silica are 2.48144±0.612617 d-1, 1.92402 ±0.314997 d-1, 2.082751± 0.051604 d-1 and 1.970746± 0.190054 d-1, respectively. Half saturation constants that are obtained for these nutrients are 17,83828±14,40044 μg at-NH4+-N, 27,31992± 19,040738 μg at-NO3--N, 0,252677±0,038891 μM PO4-P and 0,332320±0,236107 μM Si, respectively.
