Abstract (EN)

In this study, eye diseases of cattle, sheep and goats of different ages, sexes and races in 51 districts of Başiskele, Izmit and Kandıra which are the central districts of Kocaeli province were examined. A total of 13,672 (cattle 8,451, sheep-goat 5,221) animals were evaluated in terms of eye diseases. Calves, lambs and goats were examined for eyeball, eyelid, corneal and scleral anomalies according to the anemnesis. In adult animals, eyelid lesions, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera and lens lesions, pupil reflection, abnormal gait in the presence of amaurosis and behavior of the animal were evaluated. In this study, sheep, goat and cattle were examined in terms of all eye diseases regardless of race, gender and age discrimination. The of all animals with eye diseases were photographed. A total of 21 eye diseases were identified in 338 animals, of which 180 were of 8451 cattle and 158 were of 5221 sheep-goats. The incidence of disease was determined as 2.58% among 13.672 animals including cattle, sheep and goats. The incidence of any eye disease was 2.13% in the total cattle population and 3.31% in the sheep-goat population. Conjunctivitis cataralis was the most common eye disease in the cattle and sheep-goat group with a rate of 58.36%. This rate was found to be 56.67% in cattle and 60.12% in sheep and goat. Among the bovine breeds, one or more diseases were first seen in the Holstein 1.30% race, followed by the Simental 1.01% race. No eye disease was observed in Aberdeen-Angus, Anatolian Buffalo or Hereford breeds of cattle and lambs and goats. The rate of infectious eye diseases were detected as 91.50% and the rate of noninfectious eye diseases were detected 8.50% among the sick animals. As a result, depending on the climate in the region where the study is carried out, the long-term winds do not blow, the air temperatures are not high, the grasslands in the villages are very much. it is also long-term and has been observed as a regional advantage. In addition, the fact that foreign substances carried due to winds do not cause problems in the eyes, good shelter conditions, suitability of maintenance and feeding conditions, and livestock breeding which can be considered as conscious by the owners of the enterprise were also effective in determining the incidence of eye diseases.
