Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to define the power bases percived by male and female manager in banking sector and to reveal the effects of the demographic factors (gender, status, education and age) on this power bases (reward, coercive, legitimate, expert, referent, ideological and performance power). With this aim, a questionnaire which is developed by Abdullah Karaman (1999) and Çiğdem Kırel (1998) are applied to 200 private sector banking managers in Adana. In order to analyse of research questions, T-test for binary variables and ANOVA for categorical variables are used. With the aim of finding which group has a statistical effect, Tukey test is used. As a result of this study, there found impact between gender, age, education, service time, different departmants, organizational position, marital status factors and male and female managers perception of preferred power bases. Also it is determined that gender with coercive power, age with expert, referent and coercive powers, education with expert power, service time with reward and referent powers, different departmans with legitimate, expert and referent powers, organizatinal position with expert and referent powers, marital status with referent power have significant relations. Managers with 1-4 years seniority have different perception of reward and referent powers compared the other manager groups. Managers who 25-30 years old have different perception of expert and refent power compared the other manager groups. managers who over 40 years old have different perception of coercive power compared the other manager groups. Managers who are bachelor have different perception of referent power compared the other manager groups. According to results, female managers used reward power the most and the following respectively: performance, referent, expert, legitimate, political and coercive power the least. Male manager used reward power the most and the following respectively: performance, referent, expert, legitimate, political and coercive power the least.
