The impact of women employment on economic growth: Example of Turkey

One of the most important issues for countries to accelerate their socially and economically sustainable economic development and achieve their development goals is the participation of women in the workforce. Contribution to economic freedom, increase in social status, acquisition of a new social environment, self-confidence and personal development can only be achieved by including women in working life. Today, women's employment, which has a significant impact on economic growth, has become an important issue for countries. In this context, the aim of the research is to reveal the effects of women's employment on economic growth in Turkey. The findings obtained in the study analyzed with the Vector Autoregression (VAR) method between 1990-2019; In the 1990-2019 period, the economic growth in the Turkish economy is a cause of women's employment and there is an inverse relationship between women's employment and economic growth. These results are closely related to the economic policies realized in the analyzed period in Turkey and the cultural structure of the Turkish society.
