Abstract (EN)

The study area is located within the Filyos River Basin in the Western Black Sea region of the Black Sea Region and its vicinity. The area is very complex in terms of structural and geomorphologically different reliees are found together. The main geomorphological units of the study area, which covers an area of 1000 km², are formed by mountainous areas, plateau areas, valley floors, steep slopes. The research area consists of peak plains between 1350 and 1700 meters, high plains between 950 and 1350 meters, high plateau areas between 650 and 950 meters and low plateau between 300 - 650 meters. The central district of Karabuk and its close surroundings were formed by the structural formation activities from Lower Cretaceous to Quaternary. In the period between the Upper Eocene and the Lower Miocene in the Alpine Orogenic belt, the Tethis sea was drawn by the compression of the Turkey orogenic belt and the study area became the land with the rise of the Pontide - Anatolid belt. In the field, depending on this, lithological units were formed in different geological ages. In the research area, there are lands belonging to different land use capability classes. Most of these areas are forest and heathland, while in some places dry agriculture, garden cultivation, meadow and pasture lands are also included. The central district of Karabuk consists of lands with rich vegetation. There are also suitable sites for livestock activities. Since the terrain is mountainous and uneven, agricultural activities are carried out in a restricted area. The wealth created by the natural environment also supports tourism activities. The valley floors and low plateau areas of the existing rivers cover a narrow area. Improper and non-objective land use in the region constituting the research area causes the potential of the site to decrease, disappear or contract. Thus, land damage, pollution and deterioration occurs. The use of limited irrigation areas formed by river valley plates as settlements and commercial sites is a major problem. The human activities carried out in the study area show development and progress by adhering to the physical conditions of the site in general. Key Words: Geomorphology, Natural Environment - Human Relations, Filyos Stream, Basin, Karabuk
