Monography of Kargin (Erzincan-Tercan)

Monographs are investigating all aspects of a particular aspects of a particular subject related to a work, place, authoror a historical event. Monographs about settlements such as villages, towns or districts are important studies showing that cultural values, traces in daily life and applied practices have changed. Our monograph of Kargın is a work prepared to save our cultural diversity from the factors of change and transform to future generations. Kargın has taken its place in history as a clan name. The members of thisclan, who played important roles in the past of the Oghuzes, spread to the Anatolian geography. Therefore, the name of Kargın is encountered in many places. Kargın town of Tercan district of Erzincan is one of these places. This place has been under the influence of various cultures due to its location on the Silk Road. Geographical reasons such as war, earthquake, flood and immigration prevented the works in Kargın to reach today. The folk culture, which could not find much place in the modernizing world, has also been effected and the information about Kargın has started to disappear. In this study, especially folk culture, the history of Kargın town social, geographical and belief structure, clothing, ceremonies, folk dances, folk cuisine, folk medicine and the oral products transferred from generation to generation are registered in consultation with the source people by scanning the various sources and thus, a special care has been taken to be a resource to reach future generations.
