Karkamış dialect

One of the most important study fields of language researches is the study of dialect. The speaking language which is used in a specific region but is separated from its related language in terms of morphology and especially phonetics is defined as dialect. In Turkey, the first dialect studies were committed by foreign grrammarians Kunos and Kowalski towards the end of the 19th century, but the first work on Turkish language in this field is Divanü Lügati?t Türk written by Kaşgarlı Mahmud. Divanü Lügati?t Türk is a work in which Kaşgarlı Mahmud studied the speaking distinctions among the tribes by wandering among Yağma, Çiğil and Oğuz tribes. This study includes Karkamış province of Gaziantep and its villages. Through the compilations from the city center and the villages, the voice records are written down. Through the texts? evaluation in terms of phonetics and morphology, the similarities and differences between Karkamış dialect and current Turkish language are found and the position of the regional dialect in Anatolian dialects are determined.
