Abstract (EN)

Hybrid learning, ubiquitous computing (u-computing) and ubiquitous learning (u-learning) are concepts that lie in the future of the learning experience. To keep pace with the changing structure of learning in general, these concepts must be better understood and the practical applicability of u-computing to hybrid learning systems must be questioned during the transitional stage in these changes. As such, this study examines expert opinions regarding the definition of u-learning, its qualities, dimensions and components, scope, practical applicability and its future through a theoretical basis established in the adaptive learning theory.Conducted as a qualitative study, this research utilized both qualitative and quantitative data gathering tools. Expert opinions were gathered through a semi-structured open-ended questionnaire (qualitative) and a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire (quantitative). The qualitative questionnaire provided data from 3 experts in the field, while the quantitative questionnaire provided data from 34 experts. The data gathered indicates that the primary requirements for the development of u-learning environments as a result of the use of u-computing in hybrid learning systems are mobile devices and wireless network access. Currently, the most significant hurdle to overcome in this regard is unlimited accessibility to these technologies. In accordance with the responses provided by experts in the field, a re-evaluation of the definition of u-learning is in order and the following definition is proposed as a result of these responses: U-learning is context-aware learning utilizing u-computing technologies, taking place anytime and anywhere. Finally, various suggestions towards further studies and applications regarding u-computing, hybrid learning and u-learning are made in accordance with the results of this study. Keywords: Adaptive Learning, Hybrid Learning, Ubiquitous Computing, Ubiquitous Learning.
