Abstract (EN)

In this study I have attempted to examine the collapse of the Republic of Cyprus within the context of international developments. In order to avoid being engrossed in details too much, I have tried to summarise developments occurring before and after this process on the basis of main headings. I have referred to various books, journals and articles in the study. At those times, the Republic of Cyprus was founded as an artificial state; a republic that was not able to go beyond efforts to bring two nations together which had failed to live together (or forced to do so) since the 19th century in which the concept of nationality gained momentum. The Republic of Turkey was not able to manage this process well and could not make full use of its advantages. It was not able to defend its rights vis-à-vis the UN resolutions, which were under the control of England and the USA, and slam its fist on the table. In the international arena the will of the strong, not the one which is right, has taken precedence as it is always the case.Key words: The Republic of Cyprus, the USA, UN, England, Turkey, Greece
