Kirkuk city and Turkomans (Turkoman's political and socio-economic structure 1921-1990)

Even though Kirkuk and Turkmen have been under the domination of different states for many years, they have lived under the domination of the states established mostly by Turks. This situation has changed with the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after the First World War. The Iraqi State, established under British influence; one of the old Ottoman provinces of Basra, Baghdad and Mosul were merged into the province. But Mosul, Kirkuk province, which has become an issue that can not be included within agreed between the newly established Republic of Turkey and the Government of Iraq under British and influence. In 1926, the Mosul case, the result of long negotiations, was resolved in favor of the British and the Iraqi state. Thus, when Mosul province was included in Iraq, Kirkuk became a city of Iraqi state in 1926 due to Mosul province. For this reason, the Turkmens who lived here were also citizens of the Iraqi State. This change has produced some results for both Kirkuk and Turkmen. In this work, the political, social and economic changes that the Turkmens lived with Kirkuk city between 1921-1990 and the causes and consequences of these changes have been tried to be discussed.
