Abstract (EN)

It was conducted as an observational, non-randomized retrospective clinical study to examine the effect of probiotic use on biochemical results and anthropometric measurements of individuals. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 60 people, 39 in the study group and 21 in the control group, who were overweight and obese, over 18 years of age, with insulin resistance and fatty liver disease, with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 and above, who applied to a private healthy nutrition clinic in Istanbul and were followed up for at least 8 weeks. Participants in the study followed a daytime-oriented diet. The study group consisted of individuals who used probiotic supplementation (2 chases/day) and the control group consisted of individuals who accepted to participate in the study among individuals who did not use probiotic supplementation. Data for the study were collected from biochemistry results from the patient record system. One-day food consumption records and anthropometric measurements were taken at baseline and week 8. SPSS 22 program was used to analyze the results of the study. As a result of the study, the decrease in the anthropometric measurements of the study group was statistically significant compared to the control group (p<0.05). There was no statistical difference between hip circumference measurements in the two groups. When biochemistry measurements were evaluated; fasting glucose, fasting insulin, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) values of probiotic users showed a significant decrease, but no significant difference was observed in triglyceride levels. While there was a significant decrease in LDL-C in the control group, there was no statistically significant difference between the other biochemical values. More clinical studies are needed to elucidate the mechanism of action of probiotics. Keywords: Blood Lipids, Insülin Resistance, Obesity, Probiotic
