Abstract (EN)
This study examines the relationship between individuals' personality traits and religious orientation styles and their orientation toward music. The research was designed as a quantitative study based on a correlational survey model aimed at revealing the effects of personality and religiosity on musical orientation. The sample of the study consists of 424 participants aged 18 and above living in Türkiye. Data were collected through an online survey. The data collection instruments included a Personal Information Form, the Music Orientation Scale and Musical Elements Scale, the short form of the Five-Factor Personality Scale, and the Revised Muslim Religious Orientation Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS, and descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were employed. The findings indicate that there is a significant and positive relationship between musical orientation and religious orientation. In terms of personality traits, agreeableness and openness to experience were found to have low to moderate significant relationships with musical orientation. According to the results of the multiple regression analysis, the model including personality traits and religious orientation variables was statistically significant and explained approximately 13% of the variance in musical orientation. Religious orientation emerged as the strongest predictor in the model, while agreeableness made a limited but significant contribution. The findings suggest that musical orientation is associated not only with personality traits but also with religious orientation styles. This indicates that individuals' engagement with music is shaped not only by psychological characteristics but also by belief-based orientations. The study contributes to the literature by addressing the relationship between personality, religiosity, and musical orientation within an integrated framework.
