Examining the relationship between personality and religious coping- Example of Çorum

The dangers we face in life stress us and we use Coping Methods to get rid of stress. Religious orientation of this effort we have made to get rid of stress is our Religious Coping Method. While some people seek help form Allah, Some people are moving away from religion. With this study, we aimed to examining the relationship between Peronality Traits and Religious Coping with some Demographic Features. In this context, data collection tools were used by reaching 400 people over the age of 20 who resided in Çorum in September and October 2019. To determine the Personality Traits of the participants, to learn the types of Religious Coping with the short version (5FKE-KF) of the Five Factor Personality İnvertory developed by Somer, Korkmaz and Tatar. The Religious Coping Scale developed by Prof.Dr.Ali Ayten was applied. In addition, the difference between the participants' age, gender, education and marital status was evaluated. Survey results using SPSS for Windows 23.0; The t test was subjected to One Way Anovva and Correlation Statistics analyzes and the results were interpreted. According to the results of our study , the Positive Religious Coping Average of our sample was higher. There is an opposite and weak relationship between Responsibility, Softness and Openness to Development Personality and Positive Religious Coping; ıt was found that tehere was a linear and weak relationship between Negative Religıous Coping. Responsibility and Openness to Development, and a linear and medium level relationship with Softness Personality Trait, but a contrast and weak relationship whit Emotional İnconsistency Peronality Trait. Our hypothesis, which claims that there is a relationship between Peronality Trait and Religious Coping, has been supported. But; Our Emotional Inconsistency Peronality Trait and Positive Religious Coping, Extroversion Personality Trait and both Positive and Negative Religious Coping rates were not found.
