Evaluation of quality of life in colorectal cancer patients

This research was planned to perform reliability and validity of Life Quality of Individuals Having Colorectal Cancer Scale (LQIHCC) [European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Quality of Life Questionnaire-Colorectal Cancer (EORTC QLQ-CR29)], and to evaluate life quality of individuals having colorectal cancer and relationship between factors affecting life quality of patients and social-demographic properties of patients. The research was conducted a methodological and descriptive research type. In gathering research data: Individual Information Form, Quality of Life Questionnaire Cancer Patients (EORTC QLQ-C30), Quality of Life Questionnaire-Colorectal Cancer Patients (EORTC QLQ-CR29), Ostomy Adjustment Inventory (OUÖ-23) were used. Institute and scale usage permissions were taken. In the research, 117 patients having colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment at Education and Research Hospital were subjected. According to results of the study validity and reliability of LQIHCC Scale found to be significant at high level (p<0,05). There were statistically significant differences of three factors (General Health Problems, Urinary System Pleasure and Ostomy Collection Bag) for gender and two factors (General Health Problems and Ostomy Collection Bag) for job of patients as demographic characteristics (p<0,05). For illness properties, there were statistically significant differences of one factor (General Health Problems) for diagnosis and two factors (General Health Problems and Ostomy Collection Bag) for adjusting to illness (p<0,05). As a result, it was found that LQIHCC Scale is validated and reliable scaling equipment for evaluating life quality of colorectal cancer patients. In addition, it was also found that patients do not have enough knowledge level on their illness, and this situation increases nursing care responsibilities.
