Abstract (EN)

Congenital tooth deficiency is defined as the developmental absence of one or more teeth from birth. It is one of the most common dental anomalies in our society and in the world. It can be seen in both primary and permanent dentition of the same individual. It is affected by many genetic and environmental factors. In our study, it was aimed to determine the etiology of hypodontia, its relationship with socioeconomic level, and to determine the skeletal sagittal characteristics of individuals with tooth deficiency and the most frequently missing teeth in patients aged 8-28 years who applied to the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Uşak University. In our study, no statistically significant relationship was found between the age of being a parent, the systemic condition of the mother, the diseases she had during pregnancy, the birth weight of the babies, the time of birth and tooth deficiency. It was determined that the families of individuals with missing teeth also had missing teeth. It was determined that while the children of families with middle socioeconomic level mostly had tooth deficiency, children of families with low socioeconomic level did not mostly have tooth deficiency. It was found that the children of mothers who had a stressful pregnancy mostly had missing teeth. Tooth deficiency was common in individuals who used antibiotics frequently in childhood. The most common missing teeth were upper lateral incisors, lower second premolars, and upper second premolars respectively. It was found in 83.4% of people with one or two missing teeth. Congenital missing teeth was seen in women and men at a ratio of 3:2. According to the data we obtained from our study, the etiology of tooth deficiency depends on many factors; more research is needed due to the need for complex treatment covering the field of pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery.
