Abstract (EN)

One of the most important inputs of the economy is energy. Centrifugal pumps are machines that give energy to fluids in general terms. Considering that approximately 20% of electricity consumption in the world and 10% in Turkey is realized by pumps, and 65% of asynchronous electric motors produced in the world are used in pumps, it is understood that pumps are important machines with high energy consumption. Due to their high energy consumption, they have a great impact on CO2 emissions and climate changes. Apart from the energy consumption of the pumps, the costs of the problems they encounter are also high. Considering all these criteria, frequency converter has been used in order to prevent energy consumption due to by-pass valve and valve throttling in pumps that are required to operate at variable flow rates or in pumps that are not selected in accordance with the operating conditions and to minimize lifetime costs. Frequency converter is one of the equipments used in the smartening of the pump. Thanks to the converter, the desired operating cycles can be obtained, so the pump can be operated at high efficiency under different operating conditions. For this study, a vertical shaft three-stage centrifugal pump belonging to Sempa Pump company with 3000 rpm, 50 m3/h flow rate and 75 mss head was selected. In the study, the centrifugal pump was operated at different speeds with the help of frequency converter and it was determined that significant energy savings such as 6-10% were achieved.
