Folk beliefs in the Selçuklu district of Konya province

This study consists of determining the popular beliefs of Konya's Selcuklu district and the compilation of popular beliefs in the region. It is important to compile and record these cultural products in order to ensure that transferring to the future and proving not to forget of some cultural products that have come from past but are not encountered in the written sources. The purpose of this thesis is to prevent the disappereance of oral cultural products by collecting and writing them out in order to contribute to this issue. In addition, this study aimed to reveal that beliefs have considerable amount of impact on the public life. In this thesis, it was also aimed to protect spiritual foundations based on the beliefs of the people, which unfortunately continue lose their value in the face of rapidly developing technology. During the preparation phase of the thesis many written resources were scanned and many people were interviewed face to face in the light of the information obtained. Some of the information in the thesis is obtained from the written resources and most of the information is obtained from oral resources. Meanwhile it was witnessed that some of the beliefs were still living in the region by making observation method and they were recorded by taking photograph. The fact that a large majority of the source people are over a certain age suggests that our work gives us better result. Because this point shows that we have protected the peoples expressions and beliefs that are doomed to be forgotten and lost day by day without being spoiled. In this study, it was concluded that the peoples' beliefs, which are our part of rich culture, emerged as new ones and that the more people are interviewed the more believes are remembered. Consequently this work is very important in terms of compiling local people beliefs and it is so beneficial for lightening the past.
