The mediating role of common dyadic coping in the relationship between disconnection and rejection schema domain and couple resilience and moderator role of gender

The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of dyadic coping, specifically common dyadic coping, in the relationship between the disconnection and rejection schema domain of early maladaptive schemas and couple resilience. Another aim of the study is to reveal the moderating effect of gender on the mediation model. A total of 309 individuals, including 190 women and 119 men, participated in the study. The Personal Information Form, Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form-3, Dyadic Coping Inventory, and Relational Resilience Scale were used to data collect. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient Analysis and Stepwise Hierarchical Regression Analysis, and Multiple Mediator Variable Analysis (PROCESS Model 4 and Model 8) was conducted for the models. The results of the hierarchical regression analysis indicated that in marriage, couple resilience was negatively predicted by the disconnection and rejection schema domain, and positively predicted by common dyadic coping. The results related to the first model of the study showed that common dyadic coping has a mediating role in the relationship between the disconnection and rejection schema domain and couple resilience. Findings related to the second model revealed that gender does not play a moderating role in the mediating effect of common dyadic coping on the relationship between the disconnection and rejection schema domain and couple resilience. The findings indicated that common dyadic coping is a protective factor in maintaining couple resilience against the disconnection and rejection schema domain, which is considered a risk factor in the couple relationship. All research results were discussed by considering the literature, and suggestions for future research and interventions were provided.
