A comparison on the visual representation of women in the framework of communication design principles in Korean and Turkish TV dramas: Examples of "She Was Pretty" and "Seviyor Sevmiyor"

The purpose of this study was to compare Korean TV series "She Was Pretty" which was broadcast in 2015 in South Korea, and Turkish TV series "Seviyor Sevmiyor", an adaptation of original series, which was started to be broadcast in Turkey in 2016, in terms of visual representation of women. In the analysis, the purpose was to determine the cultural differences and similarities of Korean and Turkish cultures in these two TV series, and to examine the existing differences and similarities in terms of visual design principles and gender roles. While the main characters of these series including two female and two male characters were examined on the basis of physical appearance and body, perception of beauty, male gaze and stage characteristics, the distinctive scenes where other female and male actors took place were also examined in terms of visual representation and rhetoric.
