Relationship between coronary stent restenosis and plasma urotensin ii level

Coronary stenting is an impotant revascularization method to treat coronary artery disease. Stent restonosis is an important limitation for this management. The cause of stent restenosis is neointimal hyperplasia which is developed from smooth muscle and matrix. If restenosis is predictable it may have an important potential to reduce cost and morbidity. And also it will effects the treatment modalities.Background And Aim: We aimed to investigate the association between urotensin II and restenosis after coronary stenting which causes a endothelial and muscle profileration and accumulation of collagen.Material And Method: Total 153 patient was enrolled to the study who meet criteria for angiographic indication underwent coronary artery angiography in Gaziantep University, Cardiology Department. All patient have history undergone for coronary stent implantation 3 to 9 months ago. Restenosis is identified as more than %50 narrowing inside the stent. Restenosis was observed in 73 and remaining of 80 patients revealed no critical leison in stent on angiographic evaluation. Plasma level measurement of urotensin II was performed in all subjects.Results: There was statistically significant association between restenosis and urotensin II level (p=0.03). High level of urotensin II level independently was linked with coronary stent restenosis. In subgroup analysis we also observed following multivariate statistical significance: negative correlation was found between restenosis and ACEI/ARB usage (p=0.040) and RCA lesions interventions (p=0.018).Conclusion: This study revealed for the first time that there is a significant relationship between coronary stent restenosis and plasma urotensin II values. According to the our study findings high plasma urotensin II level might be accepted as a risk factors for stent restenosis. Restenosis is less developed after RCA intervetions and taking drug of RAS blockages. Our study findings need to be confirmed in further studies.Keywords: Restenosis, Urotensin II, Coronary Stenting
