The sufficiency of the use of technology of candidate teachers preparing for KPSS examination

The fact that the needs of the community change depending on developing and changing science and technology day by day, obliges teachers to adjust themselves to this change. The target of a modern education system is to educate people who research the methods to get a knowledge, know how and where to use the knowledge which they learnt and able to evaluate the events objectively. This is just possible with knowledgeable teachers who follow developments in science and technology. The influence of teachers over the development of people's personality who will lay foundation for the future is not denied. Therefore a real sense of community depends on the education system which works out well, and it depends on the teachers vice versa. We need modern education system and teachers because it is not possible to educate the current students by using the past education system. The research has been carried out to detect the ability of sufficient technology use of candidate teachers who have been preparing for KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Examination) by using the screening model. At the first phase, it has been tried to explain the concept of technology and education technology by examining up-to-date literature. The teacher candidates who study at the private schools for KPSS which are on Anatolia side of Istanbul, part of the Ministry of National Education in academic year between 2011 and 2012 constitute the universe of the research. Six hundred students who study at the five private schools have been selected with a Random Disproportionate Cluster Sample to constitute the sample of the research. In this study on the one hand, the survey was used which consists of seven questions in order to find out the demographic variables of the teacher candidates. On the other hand, another survey was carried out which consists of seventeen questions and also which is suitable five point likert scale and based on self-report in order to discover their sufficiency of the use of technology. In this context, the opinions of the teachers about their sufficiency on how much they can use technological opportunities in their profession have been determined. On the other hand, it has been checked whether their answers for the sufficiency poll depend on the demographic variables or not with the chi-squared test. At the end of the research, the candidate teachers think that they have a sufficiency on the use of technology. It reveals a meaningful dependence to the variety whether they studied the education technology's lesson especially at the university. However, according to the variety of the gender and the education level, it has been determined that it has not shown an important dependence. Key Words: Education, Technology and Education Technology
