Rural transformations-urbanizing villages a comparative analysis on two examples: Aydın-Kardeşköy and Muğla-Ortaköy neighborhoods

This study focuses on the transformation process that occurred in rural areas in the immediate vicinity of cities as a result of the Industrial Revolution and the change in production relations. From the Industrial Revolution to today's globalization and modernization period, the relationship between rural and urban areas has gone through different periods. This relationship tended to differ within the political and economic environment of the periods. The city, which has always dominated the rural area, has constantly transformed and exploited the latter. The ongoing rural-urban struggle on the axis of exploitation and transformation has become a new relationship along with globalization and modernization. In the latest situation regarding rural and urban issues today, it has been tried to reveal to what extent the traditional patterns in rural areas continue, what changes have occurred in the lives of the people living in these areas owing to modernization, and also how these people perceive the changes in the regions where they live in respect to urbanization. In the field research of the study, in-depth interview, one of the qualitative method techniques, was used. Different perspectives were tried to be brought together with the data obtained from villagers with different qualifications in Kardeşköy (Aydın) and Ortaköy (Muğla-Milas) in the Aegean Region. In this context, descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the field study conducted in Kardeşköy (22 people) and Ortaköy (23 people). The study reveals and discusses the transformation in rural-urban-urbanization issues from the pre-industrial period to today's modern period. The focus of the study is the change that rural areas, which are under the pressure of urbanization as a result of the increasing expansion of cities, have undergone in this process.
