The relationship among cultural values, human development level and terror crimes

Terror, in general, means to scare, terrify and discourage. The terror crimes are defined as the use of violence systematically to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective. In this study, on the one hand the definitions related to the subject are given and on the other hand culture and human development dimensions of the subject are addressed. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of human development level and cultural factors for the emergence of terror crimes. As a result of the analysis made; out of the six cultural values of Hofstede's model only two (power distance and long term orientation) were found to have significant relationships with terror crimes. It was found a moderate significant negative relationship between the two levels of human development (education and income) and terror crimes and a negative but insignificant relationship between health and terror crimes. In addition, it has been found that Hofstede's six cultural values and human development index together explain %15 of terror crimes.
