Abstract (EN)

This research aims to explore the usage of ليت and لعل in the Qur'an, investigating the contexts and purposes in which Allah employs them, particularly in the realms of grammar, semantics, eloquence, and interpretation concerning matters of wishful thinking and hopeful anticipation. The general meanings of these two particles, as well as the distinctions between wishful and hopeful expressions, are elucidated. Additionally, other particles that convey the meanings of wishing and hoping, albeit diverging from their primary meanings, are discussed. Fundamentally, it is argued that ليت (layta), primarily serving as a tool for expressing desire, does not deviate from this function. Scholars of eloquence have not found any meaning attributed to ليت (layta) other than the sense of "wishing," indicating its rootedness in the language of desire. It is established that ليت (layta) is originally designated to convey the sense of "I wish," supported by scholarly consensus. This study primarily focuses on this core particle, as it appears in fourteen verses of the Qur'an. Regarding لعل (la'all), it occurs approximately one hundred and twenty-three times in the Qur'an. Through the analysis of these two particles, the essence of expressing wishes and hopes is elucidated, which will be examined in detail subsequently.
