Abstract (EN)
The need for defense, which has been considered as a basic need throughout history, was met personally in the past periods, while it is met by states in the present period. States spend a high amount of defense to meet their defense needs. They need to provide the necessary investment and support to the sector in order to meet their needs in the field of defense and to establish the national defense industry. States that cannot provide the necessary investment and support to the defense industry but want to have a defense power are going to increase their power in the field of defense by importing various weapons and systems from countries with export potential. This situation increases the size of global defense trade. In this study, which is important in terms of examining Turkey's defense industry in a historical process and determining the positive and negative aspects of its practices and international interaction over periods, the defense industry practices and sector analysis of 6 countries with 83.3% share of the global defense market in 2021 were examined and the relationship between the changes in the 2006-2021 defense expenditure data obtained from SIPRI on the export and import figures of the countries was examined, As a result of these examinations, the effect of changes in defense expenditures on the socio-economic indicators of countries (GDP, Inflation, Unemployment) was examined. It is aimed to compare the data of Turkey with the countries with high market share and to make suggestions to increase Turkey's share in the global defense market. For this purpose, in the conduct of the research, it was deemed appropriate to use the holistic multi-state pattern of the case (event) study from the qualitative research models.
