Review of the borrowings in Kutadgu Bilig

In this thesis, Kutadgu Bilig, the significant work of Yusuf Has Hacip, one of the major poets of Turkish Islamic Literature, is analyzed in terms of borrowings and as a means of gudieline it sheds upon the first known Islamic State Karakhan Period and its discourse, and how it is effected by Islam and Islamic culture. In addition, the term ?quotation? is emphasized and studied, and the reasons why and how a nation quotes phrases into its native language are assessed. Kutadgu Bilig is analyzed within a frame of borrowings.This thesis is composed of four parts. In the Introduction part, after short biographical and bibliographical information about the poet, Kutadgu Bilig is presented in detail. In addition, the term ?quotation? is defined and classified. In the first chapter, a short summary of bibliography about the thesis is submitted. In the second chapter, the method of applied analysis to Kutadgu Bilig is described in detail. The title of the third chapter is ?Data and Analysis?. In this chapter, the borrowings within the body of the text are stated, and their meanings and references are analyzed in terms of their origin and figures of speech, along with semantic qualities. Due to their usage within the body of text, the words are also analyzed in terms of syntagmatics and how their usage in the text alters their meanings. An index of borrowings in Kutadgu Bilig is additionally included in the thesis.Keywords : Borrowings, Kutadgu Bilig.
