The role of translation and translation studies in teaching pPlish as a foreign language

There are many sources that examine the relationship between foreign language teaching and translation studies. However, this doctoral thesis has revealed findings, interpretations and results specific to the teaching of Polish language to Turkish students, starting with translation studies and foreign language teaching in general. By examining the relationship between translation studies and foreign language teaching with the example of teaching Polish as a foreign language, thesis made various analyzes on the teaching of this language on the axis of foreign teachers, foreign learners and Turkish learners. With these analyses, approaches to teaching Polish language in Turkey have been presented. In the first chapter, the definitions of translation in the general context and in the context of foreign language teaching are discussed, and the theories and strategies of translation studies are referred. In the second chapter, studies in the field of foreign language teaching are examined on the basis of language teaching approaches and methods. In the third chapter, the literature on the teaching of the Polish language has been reviewed and information about the teaching of the Polish language has been presented in many countries that are considered important. In the fourth chapter, the positive/negative aspects of Polish researchers in the context of translation and the effects of translation studies in teaching Polish as a foreign language are examined. The concept of Mediation, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, on which these Polish researchers grounded the importance of translation, is elaborated. In the fifth chapter, where the field studies for the thesis are started to be detailed, the findings and comments of questionnaires applied in order to obtain more effective results as a result of field studies are given. In the sixth conclusion chapter, new approaches and suggestions about teaching Polish language in Turkey are presented by combining the results of questionnaires and the views of the literature reviews.
