Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between smartphone addiction and emotional intelligence on high school students. Research was studied on a sample of 805 (456 female, 349 male) including 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades high school students who were studying in eight central disricts of Adana province. The data of high school students smartphone addiction was collected by using "Smartphone Addiction Scale", the data of emotional intelligence "Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Scale Child and Adolescent Form" and a personal data "Personal Information Form" that was prepared by researcher. ANOVA and Multivariate Regression Analysis were used in the analysis of the datum. In research, it was determined that emotional intelligence dimension such as personal skills, stress management, adaptability and general mood significantly differed according to the levels of smartphone addiction (low, medium and high) of the high school students. the group with high smartphone addiction has significantly lower scores about emotional intelligence dimensions such as personal skills, stress management, adaptability, general mood and positive effect than the groups with low and medium smartphone addiction. No significal difference was established in smart phone addiction and emotional intelligence according to gender. There was determined negative significantly relationship between smartphone addiction and emotional intelligence. It was found that between smartphone addiction with emotional intelligence dimensions such as personal skills, stress management, compliance, general mood was determined a significant negative relationships. It was determined that, the stress management dimension of emotional intelligence was an important variable at predicting all dimensions (such as daily-life disturbance, positive anticipation, withdrawal, cyberspace-oriented relationships, overuse and tolerance) of smartphone addiction. In addition, it is determined that the personal skills dimension of emotional intelligence is an important variable at predicting the tolerance dimension of smartphone addiction. Also the adaptability dimension of emotional intelligence is an important variable at predict both positive anticipation and tolerance dimensions of smartphone addiction.
