Investigation of the relationships among perfectionism, decision self-esteem and decision-making styles in high school students

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among ' perfectionism levels, decision self-esteem and decision-making styles of high school students, and to examine the perfectionism levels in terms of various variables. The research was descriptive study with correlational survey method. The sample of the study consisted of 748 ( female 448, 300 male) 9th 10th 11th and 12th grade students attending different types of high schools in the center of Kilis. The data were obtained from the Personal İnformation Form revealing demographic information of participants, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Adolescent Decision-making Scale. The data collected from high school students were proceed with SPSS 22 program. After tested descriptive, normality and prerequsite statistics, the data were analyzed with T Test, One way Variance Analysis (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis H test used for comparing independent groups. To examine the relationships among the perfectionism levels, decision self-esteem and decision-making styles of high school students, Pearson Correlartion and Simple Regression Analysis were applied. The results of the research, revealed that the perfectionism level of high school students did not differ significantly in terms of the gender and perceived socieconomic status. On the other hand, the results showed that the level of perfectionism of high school students differed significantly according to the school type, perceived parental attitude, and academic achievement average. The level of perfectionism was found to be the highest in vocational technical Anatolian high school students and the lowest in science high school student. It was also found that the perfectionism level of the high school students who perceived their families as authoritarian were significantly higher than students who perceived their families as protective and democratic. The results indicated that the students with lower academic average had the higher perfectionism levels compared to other groups. The results of current study revealed that that perfectionism had no significant relationship with decison-self esteem and vigilance which is one of the decision making styles therefore It was not carried out regression analysis to examine prediction role for those variables on perfectionism. On the other hand, it was found that the perfectionism level of high school students significantly predicted panic, cope-out and complacency of decision-making styles, and perfectionism explained the variance of 7.7% of panic, 4% of cope-out, and 4.7% of complacency of decision making styles. After the findings of the research were discussed, the recommendations were presented for the future researchers and practitioners.
