A total of 440 students, 236 women and 204 men, studying at different high schools in Istanbul participated in the research. The Psychological Abuse Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Personal Information Form which prepared by the researcher were used to collect data in the study. Statistical analysis of the data obtained from the research was carried out with the SPSS 23.0 package program. In the analysis of the data, t-test and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used. Scheffe Multiple Comparison Test was applied to determine the source of the difference between the groups. The margin of error in the study was determined as .05. According to the results of the research, a significant difference was found in the self-esteem of the participants according to the level of emotional abuse they perceived from their families. A significant difference was found in the self-esteem of the participants according to gender and perceived body image variables. There was no significant difference in self-esteem of high school students according to their grade level, type of school they attend, income level of their families, perceived father attitude and perceived mother attitude. On the other hand, it was determined that the common effects of demographic variables and perceived emotional abuse from the family on the self-esteem of high school students were not significant.
