Factors affecting the religious socialization of high school female students: The example of Kahramankazan Imam Hatip High School and Science High School

There are four stages that an individual goes through his life. These are childhood, youth, adulthood and old age. This study is directly related to the youth period when change and socialization are seen more than other periods. Adolescence is also an intermediate period in the transition from childhood to adulthood. There are many tools that help young people socialize during this period. Religion is one of these tools. Through religious socialization, individuals become a part of the religion-society relationship. In this context, the subject of the study is to address the factors affecting the religious socialization of female high school youth. The aim of the study is to examine the religious socialization of female students of Mustafa Hakan Güvençer Science High School and Girls' Imam Hatip High School in Kahramankazan district of Ankara; is to determine its effects in the context of family, education, social environment and communication tools. The study is important as it is a comparative study on religious socialization with female students from two different types of high schools. In the literature part of the study, the fields of youth sociology and sociology of religion were tried to be used. In addition, the findings part of the study is limited to the answers given by 24 female students from two different high school types to semi-structured interview questions between February and April 2023. This study, conducted using semi-structured interview and document review techniques, consists of two parts. In the introduction part of the study, the subject, purpose, sub-purpose, importance and method of the study are revealed. In the first chapter, the conceptual framework was tried to be revealed. The second part includes the evaluation of the findings. As a result of the answers given by the participants to the semi-structured interview questions, the information obtained by using the literature review was tried to be interpreted. As a result of the study, it was tried to determine that family, social environment, education and communication tools affect the religious socialization of high school youth. In addition, the study focused on the impact of demographic situations such as the type of high school they attend and their economic income level on the religious socialization of young people.
