Investigation of disability, family resilience and life satisaction of disabled veterans

This research was carried out to determine the problems experienced by disabled.veterans and to examine the effects of disability and family resilience on their life satisfaction. The sample group of the research consists of 221 disabled veterans who are registered with the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyr's Widows and Orphans Association, which is covered by the law no 3713. In the collection of data; Veteran Information Form, Life Satisfaction Scale, World Health Organization Disability Assessment Scale (WHODAS 2.0) Family Resilience Scale were used. According to the results of the research; Approximately half of disabled veterans have difficulties in transition to civilian life was determined. Life satisfaction averages of disabled veterans who have health problems, need help in daily activities, do not work, are very stressed and have mental and emotional difficulties were found to be statistically significantly lower. The general average of the disabled veterans who live in the town center or in the village, do not work, have health problems, need help in daily activities, and have mental and emotional difficulties, was found to be statistically significantly higher. Family resilience scale averages of disabled veterans, who have health problems, mental emotional difficulties and have difficulty in adapting to civilian life, were found to be statistically significantly lower. In the research, there is a negative relationship between life satisfaction and disability, a positive relationship between life satisfaction and family resilience, and a negative relationship between disability and family resilience. Disability had a negative impact on overall life satisfaction. It was determined that as the disability of disabled veterans increased, their life satisfaction decreased. Family resilience had a positive effect on total life satisfaction. As family resilience increased, life satisfaction also increased. It is thought that this study will guide the planning and delivery of services that will increase the resilience of disabled veterans.
