Examination of academician and teacher's opinions on design and adaptation dimensions of mathematical activities

The aim of this research is to find out what mathematical activity is, the factors that are prioritized in activity selection and the adaptation studies carried out in these activities.Qualitative descriptive pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In order to reveal the theoretical perspective of the study, it was studied with 9 mathematics teacher educators and to reveal the practical perspective it was studied with 13 mathematics teachers. In this context, structured interviews were held with teacher educators and teachers by organizing separate workshops.In these interviews, different questions were used for teacher educators and teachers. The video-recorded interviews were then transcribed. Transcript contents were subjected to content analysis. According to the findings obtained in the theoretical framework of the study, in the definitions of the concept of activity, it is focused on the points such as the fact that the activity has a purpose, reaching a product at the end of the process and the active participation of the student in the activity, and issues such as purpose / scope, scenario / fiction, time and product are mainly the main components of the activity was seen to be accepted. Features such as being inclusive at a successful event, having well-formed guidelines, attracting students interest and being adaptable has come into prominence. In addition, it has been revealed that teachers make a wide range of mistakes in the selection of activities. In order to eliminate these, suggestions were made such as feeling the activity as a need and following academic studies. In the practical framework of the study, it was observed that the teachers mostly used the MEB textbooks and social media to provide activities. Their qualifications from positive and negative aspect have been determined. In addition, some case such as inclusiveness of the activity in teachers' activity selection, arousing curiosity and being suitable for the purpose came into prominence. It was seen that the teachers mostly made arrangements in the instructions of the activity, in the material and in the way of study in order to adapt the activities to their classes. On the other hand, it was determined that the teachers encountered the most problems in the activity selection process in terms of the quality and type of the activity.
