A review on the 2019 Istanbul Local Elections in the frame democratic function of media

The media is a tool to inform the society and inform the society about the developments. Because of this power, the media is called the fourth power after the legislative, executive and judiciary elements. In today's world, where media and politics are getting closer to each other, no media independent from politics can be considered, and it does not seem possible to have a politics independent from the media. The media determines the opinions of the public with the news it publishes. The media and the public are affected positively or negatively by these thoughts. Therefore, we can say that media is both the source and reflection of emotions, attitudes, thoughts and ideas of a group or society. In this context, the media emerges as an indispensable tool that both supervises authorities such as legislative, executive and judiciary and informs and informs the society. With this study, the news published before and after the March 31, 2019 Local Elections of the national newspapers, which are the main printed media organ, and the media's contribution to democracy in the context of local politics - public opinion, and how and how national newspapers included candidates for political parties and mayor. In this study, the relationship between media and politics will be examined. In the election period of 2019, news about the election will be examined through newspapers called Cumhuriyet, Milli Gazete, Sabah and Sözcü. The study consists of two parts and in the first part, the literature on the subject will be discussed, and in the second part, the election news will be asset by examining with discourse analysis method.
