Abstract (EN)

Dominant powers, political structures and leaders use mass media such as radio, television and newspapers to reach large numbers of people at the same time. The media in this sense, plays the most important role in shaping the perceptions of the masses. Sovereign powers have made it easier to reach people, communicate their ideas to people, and direct the media for their own purposes, along with developing possibilities. Mass media has functioned as a means of advertising, propaganda and political communication from past to present. In Turkey, during the 12 September military coup and the 15 July coup attempt, and in the other days following it, a perception management process took place with all means of communication, including newspapers. The role of Media tools in events that profoundly affect social psychology is very heavy and shapes people's view of events. In this study, the question of "does the Hürriyet newspaper have differences of approach and discourse in the face of the coup attempt, which was a common social event in different periods?'' was tried to be answered with the vitrine page news which was examined about the relevant periods. In this context, the showcase page news in the 15 days following the events of Hürriyet newspaper in two separate periods were examined in formal and contextually, and a total of 188 reports analyzed were tabulated by counting and defining according to the differences and similarities between them.
