Tumor development -prognosis-relation of cERB-B2 and hormon reseptors,HIF and STATs expression in breast invasive ductal carcinomas

This study is based on the retrospective investigation of 150 brest cancer patientswho underwent mastectomy and axillary LN dissection in General Surgery and diagnosedin the of Pathology department of Inonu University Medical School, during the period of6 years, begining from 2002 to 2008. Twenty-four of these patients were investigatedaccording to the LN metastases.Purpose: To investigate the expression of STAT1, STAT2, STAT3, STAT5a,STAT5b, HIF1?, HIF2? and their roles in prognosis of breast cancer.Method: The expression of STAT1, STAT2, STAT3, STAT5a, STAT5b, HIF1?,HIF2? were analyzed using immunohistochemical staining in 24 breast cancer patientgroup. The datas of tumor grading, size, desmoplasia, lymphoid infiltration, necrosis,axillary LN metastases, estrogen, progestrone and cerb-B2 receptor status were evaluated.Results: We determined STAT1, STAT2, STAT3, STAT5a, STAT5b, HIF1?,HIF2? expression in breast cancer. The staining was determined in lymphocytes,myoepithelial cells, vascular wall, non tumor ductal epithelial cells.Conclusion: In our study the expressions of STAT1, STAT2, STAT3, STAT5a,STAT5b, HIF1?, HIF2? were showed in breast cancer. The antibodies could bedetermined immunohistochemically in formalin fixed tissues. There was not any statisticalrelationship between the STAT and HIF expressions and the datas of tumor grading, size,desmoplasia, lymphoid infiltration, necrosis, axillary LN metastases and the c-erbB2 status(p>0.05). There were statistically significant relationships, between both STAT5a gradingand estrojen receptor positivity and HIF2 alpha grading and progesteron receptor positivityin the invasive ductal carcinomas (p<0.05). Those findings suggested that STATs and HIFs74were important in development of invasive ductal carcinomas and for their use in new thetherapy strategies further studies are needed.Key words: Breast carcinoma, prognostic features, HIF1?,HIF2?, STAT1, STAT2,STAT3, STAT5a, STAT5b
