The effect of motivational interviews with women who experience sexual dysfunction during menopause on sexual quality of life and self-efficacy

Abstract (EN)
Aim: The research was carried out to determine the effect of motivational interviews with women who experienced sexual dysfunction during menopause on the quality of sexual life and self-efficacy. Material and Method: The study was conducted in a randomized controlled manner with a total of 164 menopausal women with sexual dysfunction who applied to the gynecology outpatient clinic of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Health Practice and Research Hospital (82 experiments, 82 controls). Personal Information Form, Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale- Female Form (ASEX- F), Sexual Life Quality Scale-Female Form (SQLQ- F) and Sexual Self- Efficacy Scale were used to obtain data. A total of four sessions of motivational interviews were conducted with the women in the experimental group, one week apart. No intervention was made in the control group. Descriptive statistics, pearson chi-square test, t test for dependent and independent groups were used in the analysis of the data. Results: Sexual quality of life and self-efficacy levels of women in the experimental and control groups who experienced sexual dysfunction during menopause were similar in the pre-test stage (p>0.05). After the motivational interviews with the women in the experimental group, it was determined that the rate of sexual dysfunction was 82.9% in the experimental group and 98.8% in the control group. In addition, after the motivational interviews, it was determined that the sexual dysfunction scores of the women in the experimental group were statistically significantly decreased compared to the control group, while their sexual life quality and sexual self-efficacy levels increased significantly (p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study, which was carried out on women experiencing sexual dysfunction during menopause, it was concluded that motivational interviews reduced sexual dysfunction and increased sexual quality of life and self-efficacy.
