Examination of vocational high school students' reasons for preferring the field of health services: The case of Çankırı

It is important for an individual to choose a suitable profession for himself, to do his job willingly in the society, to progress in his profession, and to lead a happy and productive life. (Sarikaya, 2009). In this study, it is aimed to determine the reasons why students studying in the field of Health Services prefer the field. The sample of the study consists of 305 students studying in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of Çankırı Gazi Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Health Services. Individuals studying in the field of health should have certain qualifications specific to this field. In the study, it was questioned whether the students who preferred the field of health services preferred this field willingly. For this purpose, a data collection tool was used to collect data. The data collection tool prepared by Mahmut Özcan based on the literature was developed within the scope of this study. Findings of the research, 70% of the students have nuclear families, the income level of the families is between 2000-5000 TL. Education level; primary school for the mother, high school for the father and an equivalent school. It was determined that 67% of the students wanted to change their school, 64.6% did not have knowledge about the field they studied, whereas 44.6% preferred their field voluntarily. The rate of students who get help from their teachers in choosing a school is at the level of 12%. In the findings, the desire to have a profession in a short time is the first reason for school preference for both male and female students. It is recommended to those working in this field, as it will contribute to the field, to conduct a research to compare the differences in the views and attitudes of the 9th grade students who contributed to the study when they come to the 12th grade. It is thought that carrying out a similar study in different regions that will reveal regional differences will also contribute to the subject.
