Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i Rûmî's use of history in the context of his Mesnevî

Mevlânâ Celaleddin-i Rûmî, who is not a historian himself, has benefited from the subtleties of the science of history in his work called Mesnevî. In this work, in which he concentrates on meaning rather than discourse, he gives a wide place to historical events and narrations. He considered the science of history as an alternative to express his thoughts to people and to increase his persuasion ability. Considering that Mevlana's point of view is accepted not only in the geography he lived in but also in many parts of the world, we can conclude that he used the power of historical narration in the right direction. He did not define himself as a historian during his lifetime, nor was he given such a title afterward. Since he is not a historian himself, it would not be correct to say that he adopted one or more of the traditional and contemporary understandings of history. However, by analyzing his tone and narrative style, it can be determined which of these historical understandings are in the same direction and which are opposite to him. It can be said that in his narratives in the Mesnevî, Mevlânâ generally acts according to the approach of history without a date. It was determined that he did not include not only date but also the basic concepts that make history a science such as place and person. Instead of directly narrating the narrations, he included them in his work with reflections from the eyes of the society he lived in. Analyzing how the person who has deeply processed history in his Mesnevî handles historical narratives and presents them to his readers with his own additions and tone will certainly offer new perspectives to a historian.
