Abstract (EN)

Today, women are with men at every stage of life in line with the rights given to them by the law. For this reason, we can talk about the significant increase in the number of women compared to the twentieth century, especially in the fields of education, health, workforce and social life. However, this entity turns into an unequal access barrier as the executive positions rise. This barrier of access is sometimes imposed by the "queen bees" of senior female managers who are unwilling to help their younger fellow on the career ladder. Queen bee identification since the 1970s; It is used for female managers who become alienated from other women after reaching the senior management level and thus hinder their progress. The aim of this research, which aims to examine the reasons behind the situation of female administrators who can not be found in a similar number in the management level although they constitute the majority in the lower stages of education in Turkey; The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of the administrators working in the National Education Directorates and public schools on the Queen Bee Syndrome. Social identity theory, which gives scientific meaning to the behavior of Queen Bee Syndrome, which is the subject of the research, constitutes the conceptual framework of the research. In the research, which is a qualitative research, the basic interpretive qualitative design was used and the data were obtained through face-to-face interviews within the framework of a semi-structured interview form prepared based on learning the personal views and experiences of the managers. Maximum diversity sampling strategy, one of the purposeful sampling types, was used in the study group of the research, and in this direction, 40 administrators, 20 male and 20 female, working in the provincial national education staff were interviewed. The obtained data were subjected to content analysis through the MAXQDA 2020 qualitative data analysis program. Findings obtained as a result of the analysis; 3 themes, namely the decision to become an administrator in education, the perception of the queen bee in the education hive, and the problem of female administrators in education administration, were explained and interpreted through the sub-themes related to these themes. As a result of the research that includes the views of managers on women in management; women are defined as authoritarian and oppressive, social behavior outside of the usual gender-based expectations. In general, the presence of queen bee syndrome is indicated. The thoughts arising from social comparison behaviors based on social identity discrimination and competition in working life support the syndrome. The factor in the low number of female managers was determined as the social role confusion experienced by women. The necessity of making arrangements in the organizational and social field in order to improve the representation problem in education administration is one of the results. KEY WORDS: Educational Administration, Queen Bee Syndrome. Social Identity Theory.
