Abstract (EN)

Mobbing and organizational commitment issues are among the important issues of organizational behavior, and due to their significant effects on individuals and organizations in the working environment, these two issues have been studied by researchers in recent years. This study focused on the field of sports and aimed to investigate the effects of mobbing behaviors on the organizational commitment of handball players. The sample of the study consisted of the players in the handball clubs (elite men teams) in the Turkish Handball Super League. In the data collection process, the convenience sampling method was used. The 137 players from 8 handball clubs participated in the study. In the study, two different scales were used to determine mobbing behaviors and the organizational commitment of handball players as measurements. To measure mobbing, the 12-item Negative Acts Questionnaire-Football: NAQ-F developed by Yildiz (2015b) was used. Football expressions in the scale items were reworded into handball expressions. The organizational commitment scale proposed by Meyer and Allen (1991) and developed by Meyer, Allen, and Smith (1993) was used to measure organizational commitment. Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation, and regression analyses were used for statistical analysis. The results of the study showed that the level of mobbing exposure of handball players was low and their organizational commitment was moderate. Other results of the study revealed that mobbing behaviors had a significant and negative effect on the organizational commitment of handball players (β=-.274; p<0.01). The significant and negative effect of mobbing on organizational commitment in this study showed that it was similar to the results of research in both the sports sector and other sectors. Key Words: Handball, athletes, mobbing, organizational commitment
