Abstract (EN)
The Ottoman Empire dominated the Peloponnesus between the years of 1460-1699 and 1715-1829. Since the conquest of the Peloponnesus, officials were appointed to these cities and a Muslim population was established. Immediately after the conquest, the Ottoman State turned the largest churches in the castles into mosques. New mosques and masjids were built according to the needs of the Muslim population afterwards. Foundations have been established to cover the expenses of the mosque, masjid and the people working in these institutions. The main source of this study is books and documents in President of Republic of Turkey and Chairman of the State Archives and General Directorate of Foundations Foundation Records Archive. The aim of this study is to identify the mosques and masjids of the Ottoman period in the Peloponnesus through archival documents and to explain the processes of institutions. At the same time, it is aimed to give information about the history of the mentioned places of worship, mosques and castles. The conquest of the Peloponnesus, its administrative structure, and the process of its disposal are discussed in this thesis. Subsequently, information about the relationship between the castle, the castle and city and the castle and the mosque is given. Afterwards, the details and evaluations of the castles and the mosques, the masjids, their foundations and the employees of castles on Peloponnesus are conveyed. The findings obtained from the study are emphasized. During the examinations, 15 castles with mosques and masjids are identified on Peloponnesus with 30 mosques and 7 masjids in these castles. The mosque and masjids were built by the sultan, the pasha and the inhabitants of the castle. Various officials have been assigned to mosques, masjids and foundations. The salaries of these officers are calculated daily and annually. Foundations established for the expenses of mosques and masjids were often insufficient. Because the wages of the mosque and masjid workers were paid from the mukataa income of the place they are located rather than the foundations to which they belong. In addition, the expenses required for mosque and masjid repairs were not met for many years.
