Literary arts in Nahj al-Balagha according to Muhammad ʿAbduh

The work of Nahj al-Balāgha due to its attribution to (h.e.) Ali's sermons, wise words and commandments was seen as the source of rhetoric and eloquence by the scholars in Islamic geography. Nahj al-Balāgha work on which many sharhs (commentaries/annotations) have been written since the 10th century was sharhed by Muhammad ʿAbduh in 19th the century. This study, which deals with the work of Nahj al-Balāgha, consists of two parts. In the first part; the contributions of Muhammed ʿAbduh in scientific and cultural fields are examined while in the second part, through the literary arts identified by Muhammed ʿAbduh in Nahj al-Balāgha, comparison and evaluation of the Sharh of Nahj al-Balāgha written by Ibn Abi'l-Hadid who is well-known in his domain and Bahrânî's Sharh of Nahj al-Balāgha, which has come to the forefront with its literary aspect, has been performed. The study also examines the position of Muhammad ʿAbduh from the perspective of literary arts amongst these two authors of Nahj al-Balāgha's sharhs written in the 13rd century.
