Mustafa Sâfî's Tarcama-i Jalal u Jamal (Study-critical text)

Mustafa Sâfî is an important person who lived in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He was protected by Sultan Ahmed, the Ottoman sultan of the period. Known for his authenticity in Arabic and Persian, Sâfî created many translation and copyright works. There is not much information about Sâfî in biographical sources. He is generally known for his work Zubdetu't-Tevârîh. In this study, the transcribed text of Sâfî's Tarcama-i Jalal u Jamal has been revealed. This text was compared with the source text penned by Muhammed Nezlâbâdî in Persian and thus, similarities and differences between the two texts were tried to be determined through concrete examples. Tarcama-i Jalal u Jamal is a work that has not been brought up to date. The original work, Jalal u Jamal, is a representative, mystical and metaphorical love story written in verse in 808 AH [1405-1406, AD] in Persian by Muhammed Nezlâbâdî. According to our current knowledge, the only translation of this work in Turkish (1608, AD) belongs to Mustafa Sâfî. The author's line of copy of the work, which was translated in verse-prose by Sâfî, was reached and the text was based on this. In the parts of the author line that cannot be read due to tears, wear, and deletions in copy, the copies obtained from various libraries inside and outside the country have been used. In the comparative analysis, although there are some formal differences between the source text and the translation, it was seen that the translator remained true to the original text by content. In addition, identification and analysis of copyrighted portraits containing the eulogies for Sultan Ahmed, which aggregate significantly in the text, are examined under a separate heading. The verses where Sâfî requests a state position are underlined. As a result, the aims of this study are to publish the text of Tarcama-i Jalal u Jamal, which is a concrete example of the interaction of Persian and Turkish literature, and to determine its place in the deep-rooted and rich translation tradition.
