The concept of tadbīr-ī mudun/siyāset-ī mudun in Naṣīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī's Aḫlāq-ī Nāṣirī

Naṣīrt al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī is one of the prominent representatives of 13th century Islamic thought. He produced works in many fields such as theology, philosophy, and ethics. His most well-known book on ethics is Aḫlāq-i Nāṣīrī. This book consists of three main sections: Individual, family, and city administration. Al-Ṭūsī's political philosophy and understanding of governance can be found under the heading of "tadbīr al-mudun" namely 'administration of the cities'. In this study, his political thought is attempted to be understood through the concept of "tadbīr" 'administration'. Al-Ṭūsī's understanding of management and administration is human-centered. The philosopher al-Ṭūsī attached great importance to human nature and inherent talents in the distribution of social roles and duties. He adopted a moral and virtuous-centered approach to the governance of societies and states, and considered having moral qualities a prerequisite for being a ruler. In his political philosophy, al-Tūsī placed great emphasis on concepts such as 'justice', 'love', 'public benefit', and 'social peace'.
