Reflection of city topography on elite tombs in the example of Nikaia

Nikaia Ancient City has not only been one of the most important cities of Northwest Anatolia since the Hellenistic Period when it was founded, but also became a religiously important city of the Byzantine Period with the onset of Christianity, and was the capital city of the Byzantine Empire for a while. Among the inhabitants of the city of Nikaia, which has such an important location, farm owners, clergy and some people in the ruling class had unique mausoleums built outside the city walls of Nikaia in order to keep their names alive, to keep their family names alive or to show that they still own their properties. These monumental tombs and their surroundings have been damaged due to treasure hunters or natural reasons. Although this situation makes it difficult to date the tombs in question, the tombs generally point to the late Hellenistic and Early Christian Periods.
